Get Started
The eLearning Portal is Northumbria University's Virtual Learning Environment where you can find online resources for your modules, including lecture materials, study notes, discussion boards and virtual classrooms.
The eLearning Portal has been upgraded over the summer to Blackboard 9.1 Release Novermber 2014 CP4. You will find that since the upgrade, the system has a new look and feel as well as some useful new functionality.
The basic structure of most course sites, however, remains the same so existing users should not have too much difficulty in finding their way around.
These pages will help new and existing users to make best use of the eLearning Portal and Blackboard 9.1.
To Log On
- Click on the Blackboard button in My Northumbria. This will open the eLearning Portal and will automatically log you on OR
- Enter elp.northumbria.ac.uk in your web browser address bar. You will be prompted to enter your log on details.
Things to Think About
- On the eLearning Portal, module and programme sites are known as courses.
- You will be attached to a course site for each of your modules as well as for the programme you are studying. Take a look at the Course List area on the Home tab and make sure that all of the courses you expect to see are listed. If the list appears incorrect, eg. if any of your modules are missing, contact the IT Helpline on ext 0191 227 4242.
- You can customise your Course List to show or hide courses or course information - click here for a PDF guide on how to do this.
- If the name of a course has the word 'unavailable' after it, this means that your tutor has not made it available for students to access. If you think you should be able to access it, check with your tutor.
